Raspberry Pi Projects

This will be a parent page for all of my Raspberry Pi projects!

What is a Raspberry Pi?

First, some of you may be wondering, what is a Raspberry Pi? What can you do with a Raspberry Pi? Well, much like that smart phone in your pocket, a Raspberry Pi is a small computer (a system on a chip) that you can load an operating system on and customize to your heart’s content. A lot of people use them to record TV shows like a DVR or as home media centers like the Apple TV or Roku. Others use them to control sensors or robots. I have a coworker who build an awesome Raspberry Pi controlled candy giving robot for his daughter! Some of my projects are below.

Why call it Raspberry Pi?

Fun fact, the Raspberry Pi gets its name from the tradition of naming computers after fruits (Apple, Tangerine, Apricot, Orange, Blackberry)! “Pi” is a well known abbreviation for Python (An increasingly popular programming language) which comes standard on most Raspberry Pi operating systems.

I personally have two generations of the higher end Raspberry Pi model. The projects I have done with them are listed below.

Model B

  • 2 USB ports  (I think they are USB 2)
  • Ethernet Port
  • Headphone jack
  • Micro SD card for OS
  • Powered by Micro USB (1000mA, 9V-12V)
  • HDMI input
  • Expandable pins
